What Causes Intermittent Pain And Tightness In Chest?

I have been experiencing pain and tightness in my chest over the last two years. Saturday night suddenly my chest felt like someone had stuck a knife in it. I broke out in a sweat then chills, nauseated and my neck and jaw felt like I had lock jaw. We went to the drug store and got baby aspirin and I took two. Within a few minutes the pain resolved to return later in the evening when I was sleeping. Yesterday I felt wiped out all day and today I have had terrible pains in my abdomen will chills and nausea. Any advice?

Hello dear,

In your post, you have not mentioned regarding any history of trauma to the chest. Under such circumstances, the symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to:
1. Gastrointestinal cause- due to accumulation of gas and excess acid formation in stomach. Symptomatic relief can be obtained with intake of Proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole, which prevent acid formation in stomach (to be taken before meals)+ antacid gel (to be taken after meals).
Antispasmodics like Dicyclomine preparations will be helpful in preventing the pain in abdomen.
Avoid taking aspirin & other NSAIDs as it will aggravate gastric irritation.

2. Spasm of the chest muscles- management will involve application of muscle relaxant gel & intake of analgesic (like Diclofenac) + Pantoprazole preparation.

However, an ECG can be done to rule out any Cardiovascular cause for the symptoms.

So, kindly consult your Doctor and start treatment as advised.
There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Take care.
