Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Intermittent Pain Around The Waist Region?
I have had a stabbing pain in my right side at waist level for 3 days on and off. It is intermittent, leaving any where from 3 to 30 minutes between stabs. At time it seems to cause an ache down my right butt cheek deep inside. I have had a low fever (99.5) on and off also and at time a iffy stomach. I have been slightly constipated, missing 2 days then going just a little when I do go. Should I be worried or should I just try eating more roughage and drinking more milk? Thank you for your help.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Your complaint without any urinary symptom can be either swelling of the appendix or spinal disc problem in the lumbar region. Both the conditions causing pressure over nerve supplying butt cheek.
You need a physical examination by a surgeon along with USG/X-ray of the part to confirm the diagnosis followed by specific management. Till then you should take rest, eat a bland light diet with sufficient water and no massage or fomentation of the part. An ice pack can help acute pain.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
