What Causes Intermittent Pain Behind The Right Ear?

Have intermittent pain behind right ear that runs from the base of the mastoid bone upward about 2 . Pain is a sharp to moderate pain and lasts about 30 seconds to a minute. In reoccurs approx. every 3 minutes. This has been happening since early this morning.
