What Causes Intermittent Pain In The Groin And Thigh After Knee Injury?

Several weeks ago I tripped and fell. My knee was in pain for a few weeks then my upper thigh and groin started to hurt. I have intermittent pain starting at the groin and down my thigh. It hurts most when I stand after having been seated for a while. There is still slight soreness in my knee but not much.

Hi,

The pain you are feeling in the groin and thigh area can be due to muscular strain which might happen when we have pain in an area close by as it happened with you. Due to the knee pain, trying to spare the knee and the muscles around causes strain on the muscles of the joints close to the knee and can cause pain in the thigh or groin.
The fact that the pain is worse on certain movements is another reason to think this is a muscular pain.

I would recommend you to take some paracetamol and ibuprofen to help with the pain and use local warm compresses. Some physiotherapy might be helpful as well but his can be done if you see a physiotherapist.

If the pain is not better in a week or so or you notice any worsening you will need to see your doctor, especially if you notice skin lesions or any lump in the area.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
