What Causes Intermittent Pain In The Left Side Of The Chest?

For the past two days I ve had a dull pain on and off in my chest on the left side. Once in a while when I hace the pain I can feel it in my back. I also feel a bit of heaviness in my chest on and off. I have been functioning normally for the most part today. Last evening I felt a cool burning sensation in my left arm. I haven t gone to the ER because when I ve had similar, not exact, symptoms, nothing was found after testing. I was only recommended to take antacids. About 1/2 hour ago, I had an acid reflux occurrence.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

As per your history is concerned heaviness in your chest is due to coronary artery blockage only, which can not be detected on ECG if not infarcted and cardiac muscle damaged, even heart sound is normal. So my advise is do an [ANGIOGRAM] test and it will tell you clearly where is blockage present and how many %.Tell your local doctor to check following physical signs carefully-

a) Check vital signs [Blood pressure,Respiratory rate, Pulse, Temperature] and record it in normal times and during chest heaviness and compare both.
b) Check neck veins
c) Cardiac murmur
D) Chest murmurs
e) Abdomen -palpation for mass present
f) Use pulse oximeter to check peripheral extremities

I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me. Wishing you all the best for test result.

Thanks,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
