What Causes Intermittent Pain In The Neck And Shoulder?

My partner is female under 5 has suffered neck and shoulder pain on and off for a number of years, her job does not involve heavy lifting or sitting in front of a computer, the pain when she has it radiates across the trapezius and down through the upper erector spinae. Can you give any advice as she is presently off sick with this condition, her G.P. does not seem to understand about the condition, I feel she should ask to be referred to a specialist , but bless her she is one of those grin and bear it people. Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your partner seem to be related to myalgia. It is a medical condition characterised by inflammation of the muscles.

I recommend using anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen three times a day. I also recommend using anti-inflammatory cream such as Voltaren cream for local application.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
