What Causes Intermittent Pain In The Penis In A Child?

Hi, my 6 yr old is complaining of intermittent pain in penis area......could this be related to worms? Reason I ask is, we discovered one family member had & treated all of us but maybe we still have them. My 6 yr old often complains of stomach pain, he is a very restless sleeper, has pain in his legs sometimes and from what I ve read, these are all symptoms but could the pain in the area of his penis be that too?

Hello,

Intermittent pain in the penis in a child is commonly due to poor hygiene causing UTI.

You are suggested to visit ER, to get him physically examined to rule out any physical (rash, itching, scratching swelling or infection) causes of the pain.

Get CBC, Urinalysis(R/E, C/S) & tool(R/E, C/S) done to detect any UTI & infection by worms.

His treatment will depend upon the pathology detected. HE will be de-wormed if he has worms. Help him maintain hygiene & avoid using public washrooms/toilets.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
