What Causes Intermittent Pulsing And Throbbing Sensations On The Forehead?

For the past 24 hrs I ve been having intermittent pulsing or throbbing sensations on my right upper forehead. It s always the same spot. There is no pain and I have not yet seen it actually pulsing. My vision is fine. I ve been Type II Diabetic for 1 year and now on Metformin. Also, I have Hypertension and am taking Lisinopril. My BP is controlled and usually around 117 to 121 over 65 to 71. What could this be? Should I be concerned and go to emergency?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your detailed history related to pulsating or throbbing pain in the right upper forehead, hypertension under control, fine vision, diabetes type 2 for one year.
The commonest causes of such throbbing or pulsating pointed to one area headache are one of the following:
Hypertension but yours is well control hence almost ruled out.
Arteritis or migraine headache; a Neurologist can helps you the best to know the cause.
Intracranial tumors can present like this and CT scan or MRI of brain can help to confirm or rule these out.
Hence Get all the relevant investigations, clinical evaluation by a Neurologist, second opinion of an ENT Surgeon to rule out any sinus related issues and get treated accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
