What Causes Intermittent Sore Throat With Headaches And Plugged Ears?

both myself and my partner have been sick for two weeks. We just came back from New York and were basically in bed for the five days. Since then we have been up and down with symptoms lingering, getting better and getting worse. We went to the Dr. who presribed anti biotic due to very heavy thick green discharge in nose and throat. At first it was more acute but better now. We continue to have low energy, sore throat on and off especialy in the evening, headaches on and off, sore lymph glands, plugged ears. We are to do a 3 day 2 night hiking trip in 5 days and are really wondering about it. Any suggestions?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have intermittent sore throat with headaches and plugged ears well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to many reasons but it seems to me that these symptoms probably occur due to eustachian tube dysfunction and it could be post nasal drip.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles several times a day. Take paracetamol for fever and headache. Take tepid sponging if it is severe headache. Consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order test like swab test, blood test, and may prescribe antibiotics for at least for 10 days along with decongestant. You should take steam twice a day and maintain proper hygiene. Drink plenty of water and liquids.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
