What Causes Intermittent Soreness In The Upper Right Abdomen?

My husband is starting to have cramping or something that feels like sore muscles on his upper right side. It comes and goes. He doesn t notice that it flares up after eating fatty foods but we are wondering if it could be gallbladder. He had pain all day but then it left this evening. He was having trouble coughing earlier as it was very painful like sore muscles. Are these symptoms those of gall bladder issues? Do symptoms come and go like this?

Hello,

The symptoms of extreme pain on upper right side of abdomen especially after eating fatty food is highly suggestive of pain related to gallstones generally. And the pain comes and goes mostly.

But other causes can be there for the pain and to find out the exact reason I would suggest you to get an ultrasound whole abdomen done and visit your doctor with the results.

As well as get routine blood tests like CBC, LFT, KFT done as per the doctor’s advice.

Whenever a patient comes to me with such symptoms, after history and physical examination first thing I suggest him is, to get an ultrasound abdomen done.

Cause thats the best diagnostic test to do initially. After the results of the tests if the underlying cause for the pain is gall stones then I refer the patient to general surgeon.

The surgeon will suggest further treatment options for the same.

If the tests results do not suggest the presence of gallstones and something else will be the reason of pain then the further management will be suggested as per the requirement to get relief from pain and the underlying cause will be treated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
