What Causes Intermittent Thumb Pain Post-cancerous Thumbnail Removal?

about ten days ago had a thumb nail cancer removed from my lower shin.... today it hurts periodically but intensely. The hole is obviously still there, seems to be healing (?) no infection apparent.... used up all my intense pain pills and am reluctant to get more as I come from an addictive family I am 88 years old, take medications for heart failure and fibulation (have anti fibulation implant - new) but otherwise is fair health - i.e. walk about 3/4 mile a day... lots of support and good attitude

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I am afraid you will have to take pain killers for pain relief.
However, you may mild pain killers instead of habit forming ones like morphine.

Thanks and take care
