Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband who will be 82 in June has just been scheduled for a colonoscopy in a few weeks, the last time he had one he complained of being tired and passed out. Tests showed a gastro intestinal bleed, he had passed out from loss of blood. He was on warfarin, and the dr. had failed to take that into consideration.I feel he should not have one again at his age. Please let me know your advice on this
The best thing is to switch from warfarin to injectable unfractunated heparin one week before colonoscopy as this drug is short acting and on day of procedure the morning dose of it can be skipped and he can go for procedure and post procedure restart warfarin after 24hrs.
