What Causes Involuntary Movements Of Eyes Post Radiation Treatment?

64 years old, diabetic, recent cancer surgeries (otolaryngologist), just finished 33 radiation treatments: second time today, had a weird feeling of not being able to focus my eyes together (have worn glasses since childhood) but feeling is like right eye is operating independently from left eye. No pain, and lasted only short time. Sign of stroke? already have doctor appt tomorrow afternoon for consult on current medications includi ng liquid hydromorphone for post surgery and radio pains... just leave this situation until then and explain it to him? Am feeling ok now, no dizziness, no vision problem, no pain.

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Welcome to HCM. There are multiple reasons behind recurrent involuntary eye movements. Since you have mentioned it's short term, many other questions come to my mind as well. Did you notice any double vision/blurry vision ?.Considering your situation, a diabetic, I would also look for your diabetic status as well. Is it under control? You have also mentioned 33 radiation sittings, so long term exposure could also have triggered an incident like this.

I would suggest you to get an eye exam done by your ophthalmologist or Neuro-ophthalmologist in specific, so they can evaluate your eye muscles with specific tests and guide you accordingly.

Meantime keep your Blood sugar under control and let your oncologist know about your new eye problem , so the doctor will be aware of it and can evaluate and refer you to an eye doctor earlier if needed. Hope this helps. Take care.
