What Causes Irregular Bleeding After Discontinuing Nordet?

hi, I am a 45 years old Indian lady now I am in Qatar, I have heavy bleeding for last ten years and always doctor suggest hormone tablets (nordet) , when I take this tablet my bleeding come normal after stopping this tablet one month it will come normal then next month it s again with heavy bleeding with thick clots. two month before my doctor gave me norethistrone 5mg tablet and told me to use if every month. now bleeding is normal but, how safe is this tablet taking continuously?, in India doctors suggesting for hysterectomy.

Hi,

Nordet is Levonorgesterol which is progestin hormone and ethinylestradiol, an estrogen compound. It is called as Combine pill that it has both oestrogen and Progestin, two major hormones of the menstrual cycle. Norethistrone is Progestin which is also called as mini pill because it has only progestin without oestrogen. Both the drugs acts by making the vaginal fluid thicker than usual, change the lining of the uterine endometrium and prevent the ovulation that is the release of egg.

In Norethistrone, ovulation inhibition may be inhibited. Mini pills are prescribed for women having non compliance with oestrogen. Thick endometrium is one of the major causes for menstruation is endometrial bleeding. These pills act by reducing the uterine lining. So that there is bleeding on stopping the drugs. Hysterectomy is the best option for the women those who have children and who had done permanent sterilisation. Hormone replacement therapy may be advised in post hysterectomy patients.
