What Causes Irregular Heart Beat Along With Shortness Of Breath?

Hi In the past few days I have become very short of breath on exertion, but now it is lasting all day regardless of if I am doing anything or not. I had a bad cold last week and now feel like I have a build up of catarrh in my throat but am not coughing anything up. I worry that the breathlessness may be my heart. My blood pressure is slightly raised but that is normal for me and I also suffer from an irregular heartbeat.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

With a history of a recent respiratory tract infection, infection of the lung tissue (pneumonia) or heart failure (not as likely unless there is a previous history).

Persisting infection is the most likely cause.

It would be best since the shortness of breath is severe, to see your doctor for an assessment as soon as possible.
Imaging such as x rays may be needed to take a look at the lungs.

Blood tests may also be needed

I hope this helps
