What Causes Irregular Heart Beat?

I am a 51year old woman I have suddenly developed an irregular heartbeat. My pulse is around 60bpm but late at night in bed or early in the morning it goes quite low (has been as low as 40bpm but typically around 50bpm) and then I begin to experience irregular patterns eg beat, beat pause beat or beat beat beat pause beat. There may be other variations to this. This can go on for up to three hours and then it resolves and I have a normal ECG. What could this be? Will it go away? Is it connected to the menopause?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

I would like to tell you that heartbeat changes according to your activity level, emotional stress, and physical changes.

If your ECG came out normal then Kindly get an Echocardiography and HOLTER (ambulatory ECG) for 48 hours done to evaluate any life-threatening heart rhythm disorder and consult a cardiologist personally for a physical evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhanu Partap
