Thanks for posting your query at HealthCareMagic. MVP or mitral valve prolapse is a disease of the mitral valve which is located in between the atrium and ventricle. On the other hand, the electrical circuitry of the heart is such that the electrical stimulus originates in the wall of atrium in SA Node and gets to the ventricle only after going through AV (atrioventricular) node which is located in between the two. Since this region is affected in MVP, it may cause the AV node to behave improperly and cause irregular conduction to the ventricle thus causing irregular beats. This is the problem that you are suffering from. The pain that you are feeling is also associated. You should visit your cardiologist and get an echocardiogram done to evaluate the present conditon. An electrocardiogram (ECG) also needs to be done.

It is good that you do not smoke or drink. These are linked to a condition called atherosclerosis where lipids are deposited in the walls of the blood vessels of the heart and cause the pain. It is not the main concern in your case.

I hope that I have been able to clarify your situation to you. Feel free to revert back in case of further queries if any.
