What Causes Irregular Heart Beats, Syncope And Nausea In An Elderly Woman?

My mother in law is 56 years old and her heart rate goes up and down, some days she feels like she is going to pass out or throw up it is so bad, some days it last for a few days of super high and others it goes back down the next day. They have done all of the tests at the hospital but have no answers for her

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.

Would you please clarify a few things for me?
-what tests have been done so far?
-does she have any other medical issues or take any medications?
-how high does the heart rate go?
-has she ever passed out?

Based on her symptoms I would like to rule out atrial fibrillation, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia and Wolff - Parkinson - white syndrome.
I recommend :
-a physician consult and cardiologist consult
-blood tests (complete blood count, kidney and liver function tests, electrolyte levels including potassium and magnesium)
-electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, extended Holter monitoring, and stress test.
These help to detect any rhythm abnormalities. A stress test can help to see if the arrhythmia is caused by stress.
-she may need blood thinners to prevent entering strokes by clot formation dye to irregular heart beat
Make sure she doesn't drive or operate any machine during these episodes.

Hope this helps.
Wish you both good health
