What Causes Irregular Heart Beats?

Today, about 5 times, I could suddenly feel this one beat of my hear that was really hard. I lost my breath every time, due to shock or something else, I don't know. It feels like something is hit against my chest when it happens. What does this mean?

dear,u will have to take one ECG at the time it happens,there r differnt types of arrthymia ,u will have to find out wht type of arrthymia it is,most dangerous of them is ventricular tachycardia,did u lost urs conciousness tht time ,if yes thn u will have go for HOLTER study if ECG comes normal,it can be HYPERTROPHIC OBSTRUCTIVE CARDIOMATHY,so echocardiography is also required,but before all of it take ECG FIRST
