What Causes Irregular Heart Rate After Undergoing Thyroidectomy?

had a total thyroidectomy 1 1/2 years ago, 2 RAI. Parathyroids were all damaged. On 1mcg calcitrol, 1500mg calcium, 500mg magnesium per day. Had a very irregular HB when on 150mcg levo 5 days and 100mcg 3 days. Changed to 150mcg 4 days, and 100mcg 3 days, and TSH is still suppressed just below bottom end of ref. range. Heartbeat is still irregular, but much better. I don t feel agitated anymore but, I do feel more sluggish than normal. My main concern is the irregular HB. What could be the root cause ? I have all lab results if you need any other numbers. Thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Hyperthyroidism can cause arrhythmia including atrial fibrillation.Consult a cardiologist and get serial EKG recording to rule out any cardiac rhythm anomalies. You might also require an echo test to rule out structural defect.

Hope I have answered your query.
