Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
The past week or two I have been experiencing an irregular heartbeat. When this happens it feels like something is sitting on my chest, i feel slightly dizzy and there is mild tingles in the ends of my fingers. My legs have been cramping at night when I am trying to sleep. I am not a smoker. Years ago i experienced and episode which lead me to go see my doctor, he did some tests and diagnosed an irregular heartbeat caused by stress and advised that I try to maintain stress free as possible. I have been without incident for quite sometime but recently I have been experiencing some off feelings. My doctor also advised that i take aspirin before when these feelings started. I have recently started taking them again, they do seem to eleviate the discomfort somewhat but not completely. Please advise.
Hello, I really appreciate your concern. You are having irregular heart beat and similar previous history of heart beat abnormality then I advise you to consult your treating physician and have electrocardiogram (ECG) of heart and if needed 2D or 3D ECHO of heart. Further management depends on the results of these investigations. Furthermore, Aspirin is an anti-platelet drug which is used to prevent atherosclerosis or blockage of the heart vessels. It cannot prevent irregular heart beats. You should try relaxation exercises like yoga and meditation. They certainly useful in this condition. Hope my answer has solved your query. Take Care. Thank you.
