What Causes Irregular Periods After Having Morning After Pill?

I took the morning after pill in beginning of August and have had a messed up cycle in August, Sept., Oct., and Nov.--I am normally very regular. Can you please tell me if this is usual for a cycle to be off course this long after or if I should be concerned for something more?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The use of emergency contraception can affect the subsequent cycles. It can either affect the flow or the length of the cycles.

Normally the change does not last for so many cycles however. If your cycles continue to be irregular then you may have to see your doctor for assessment which may include, physical examination, blood tests and possible imaging.

Causes of irregular period are: (1)physical stress or illness
(2)emotional stress or illness
(3)inadequate diet
(4)extreme physical activity
(5)high levels of prolactin hormone
(6)side effect of medication
(7)abnormal levels of thyroid hormone

I hope this helps
