What Causes Irregular Periods Along With Persistent Abdominal Pain?

Hi I am 22 years old and I ve been experiencing pain in my left lower abdominal area for about 6 months. Just recently my periods have been irregular and I ve been getting steroid injections for pain which have not been helping except temporarily for about 2 weeks. I am trying to figure out what could be causing so much pain until I realized that it could be my cervix. Should I be concerned and go into the hospital because the pain is very bad. I ve already taken two Norcos to try to ease the pain but nothing is helping. There is no current vaginal discharge or bleeding but the pain is horrible. I have not had a pap smear in about a year or more. Is there anything that I could do now to figure out what is going on? I have been trying to figure out the source of my pain for about 6 months and no one can seem to figure it out although I have not had a pap smear. Please help

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Irregular periods are commonly due to thyroid issues, anemia, poor general health, PCOS, too much stress, exercise or anxiety.

You are suggested to take iron, protein, calcium-rich food, improve your general health & get tested for thyroid. Avoid stress, stay hydrated & take adequate rest.

Other medical conditions that cause persistent abdominal pain are cysts, fibroid or endometriosis.

You should visit ER, get a general health examination & screening tests (blood & imaging tests) done.

Get clinically examined by a GP to rule out cysts, fibroid, endometriosis. Get PAP smear test done at the earliest. Get treated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
