What Causes Irregular Periods While Having Diabetes?

Hi! I am a 55year old woman with symptoms of menopause. For the past 2-3 years my periods have not been regular. I took scans then and again a year later. My gynaecologist suggested that I wait for some more time and was not in favour of hysterectomy. I am an insulin dependent diabetic for the past year or so(earlier I was on oral medication). I underwent a D&C about an year back. Even this failed to set my problem right. Now, I am having incessant bleeding once in two months. The bleeding is intense and does not look like the regular discharge(like bleeding from an wound). Please advise!
