General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I understand your concern. Yes, Carbamazepine is known to affect the menstrual cycle by decreasing estrogen levels. It is also possible that you might be entering menopause, considering the irregularities over the last year, but being on Carbamazepine makes the distinction hard to make. If you have any of the accompanying symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, night sweats, sleep problems, mood changes, weight gain, then the start of menopause can safely be assumed.

Finishing the course of Carbamazepine and the resolution of the neuralgia have precedence for the time being. Afterwards, I recommend you see a doctor and have the appropriate tests to determine the onset of menopause. All the best.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ornela Ademovi
