What Causes Irregular Periods While On Birth Control Pills?
I ve been taking mini pills (birth control) for 2 years. During this length of time, I do not have period each month. However, I started spotting and have cramp, just like having period, the last 3 weeks, on and off. Not sure what s going on, should I stop taking the pills?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Spotting and experiencing cramps while on birth control pills is commonly seen as side effects of the pills. These symptoms are experienced by some during the period of contraception. Many a times it is temporary and subsides by itself with symptomatic treatment. You can take analgesic like mefinemic acid to overcome pain and cramps. Also it would be safer for you to take a urine pregnancy test to make sure you aren't pregnant due to pill failure. In case it continues, you need to consult Gynecologist for changing the contraceptive pills, which would suit you. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
