What Causes Irregular Periods With Brown Spotting?

I am 22 years old and for the last year my periods have been irregular and when they do come they are just brown. I am just wondering what this is, also they are more regular now but still brown. This month there is a lot of clear egg white like liquid with the brown blood. What could this mean?
