What Causes Irregular Periods With Weight Gain?

Hello, I am 27 years Old, have irregular periods from 3-4 months, also suddenly my weight has gained. Doctor has suggested me Obimet SR 500mg. It it helpful to reduce weight? and to gain regular periods. As Now we are planning for a baby after a year of our marriage. Pls suggest.
