What Causes Irregular Periods?

I had my last period on 3/6 which would make my next period due on the 9th of April. Given that my cycle is 34 days long. My period didn't come on for that whole week. Now almost more than a week after I am spotting. It doesn't fill up a pantyliner what could be going on.
