What Causes Irregular Periods?

Im 16 years old and still a virgin. I havent gotten my period for like 3 or 4 months and im starting to freak out! my periods have NEVER been regular but this is really scary. Is this usual or should i get checked right away? Please explain to me whats happening i really need to know.
