What Causes Irregular Periods?

I am 28 years old and always had a bit irregular cycle. After marriage for a year it was very regular 28-30 days cycle but from last 3 months it has become 40-42 days cycle and also lasts for only 2 days ........I haven't changed anything in life style....what may be the reason for this change.
We are not planning baby right now......
