Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am currently a medical assistant student. We are learning how to read and record radial pulses. We went around and did each others. I had several people tell me that my pulse was a little "weird." So I asked my instructor to test it because I thought it was because of their inexperience. The pattern was as follows:
strong steady pulse, then slowly declined to a weaker pulse then disappeared. It continued to do that the entire 60 sec. My instructor was a little concerned and recommended I have an EKG done. I also was diagnosed with atrial valve defect when I was born.
Should I be concerned or is it nothing to worry about?
I would explain that your symptoms could be indicative of a possible cardiac arrhythmia, especially considering the presence of atrial valve defect.
For this reason, I would recommend performing a prolonged 24-48 hours ECG monitoring in order to examine your heart rhythm trends and exclude possible cardiac arrhythmia. You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
