What Causes Irregularity In Periods And Weight Gain?

Good evening Doctor.I m not sure if you are the right person to ask this but I ll ask anyway. I m a 22 year old going on 23 this year and my periods have always been so not normal and bt not normal i mean they can show up once it twice a year. Its not because of my weight because I was tiny but now I ve gained more weight. Would you happen to know exactly what had happened?I d really love to have kids of my own in the next few years

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

In your case irregularity in periods and weight gain could be closely linked. Problem must have been started with a weight gain or an eating disorder. Excessive weight gain or an eating disorder could alter the normal hormonal balance & could make your menstrual cycle irregular.
There is nothing much to worry. With weight loss you periods will start to be regular & you would be able to concieve. You should try to exercise more & control your diet. Taking a healthy diet full of green leafy vegetables & fruits is advised. You could consult a dietitian for more help.

You should also refer to a gynaecologist, she would try to diagnose & rule-out other problems that might be responsible for irregular periods. An pelvic ultrasound is also advised to rule-out any disease of pelvic organs like PCOS.

Hope this information helps
