Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 5 yr old has been complaining of itchy teeth. I heard her grinding her teeth really hard when I was brushing them and she said that it helps to relieve the itch. She said that they have been itchy for my whole life. We practice good dental hygiene (brush 2x a day, semi regular flossing, mouthwash). Any idea what could be causing it?
Itching in teeth is commonly due to itching in gums and it is commonly due to deep infection in gums..
Many a times there can be deep infection in the gums that is under the gums and is not visible to naked eyes and can cause itchy feeling in teeth and gums..
Teeth grinding can also be due to some kind of stress that can be due to some sort of stress..
So my suggestion is to consult a Paediatric dentist and get evaluated to rule out the exact cause of the itching and grinding of teeth.. A full mouth x ray can also be done for further confirmation.. If there is pain you can give her Acetaminophen and make her do warm saline gargles.. Give her a nutritious diet, sufficient rest and check for any stress symptoms that can be a cause of teeth grinding..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
