What Causes Irritation On The Inner Side Of Bottom Lip?

Hello. I have had an irritation in the inside bottom lip for about one year now. It feels like there is slight pain from sucking on it after a little while. I try not to suck on it, but it s a habit I think due to what is going on there, so it just gets more irritated. There is no redness or bleeding, but worried it s not going away. Is it possible there is a salivary blockage? My dentist suggested this.

Hi...
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain as you have a habit of sucking of lip there is continuous irritation and injury to the mucosa present on inner side of lip and as the injury is continuous the mucosa is unable to heal and it leads to pain..

A blocked duct mostly presents as a swelling and as you are having only irritation it can not be necessarily a blocked duct but due to your habit you can injure the minor salivary glands present in that area and cause formation of a mucocele..

In order to avoid irritation you should stop suckling the lip..
You can chew sugar free chewing gums during the times when you tend to suck more of your lip to avoid it..
Concentrate more on your studies/ work and engage in other recreational activities of your choice to avoid this habit..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
