What Causes Itching All Over The Body In A Kidney Patient?
i was just prescribed hydroxyzine hcl 10 mg tab for terrific itching on my whole body mostly at bedtime i am very close to dialysis for my kidneys my gfr is 12,75 and creatinine is 4.75 i am 79.4 years old my itching is still kr eeping me from sleeping, and not falling asleep until 4 to 5 am . can i increase my dosage to stop the itching?
Itching all over body is due to uraemic pruritus in your case.It is due to high levels of urea and electrolyte disturbances in blood in chronic kidney disorder patients. Hydroxyzine is antihistaminic and it causes temporary relief.Dialysis may give you some relief from it gradually as problem is because of urea. For time being, you can use lotions containing petroleum jelly and camphor for local application. If itching still worsens, you may need to visit dermatogist. There is an option of phototherapy for severe uraemic itching.
Hope I answered your query. Wish you good health.
