What Causes Itching And Burning In One Eye?

About 3 am this morning I woke up to use the bathroom and my right eye started burning for no apparent reason. Now it s very red, watering and hot to the touch. It feels like something is in it but I have used refresh eye wash and it still feels like something is in it. It has been itching for several days but I didn t think too much about it as I have frequently have itchy eyes. As far as I know I haven t gotten anything in it. Also, it is sensitive to bright light. Any idea what it could be?
