What Causes Itching And Burning Sensation In The Vagina While On Mirena IUD?

hello, I am a 21 year old female. Currently I am using the mirena IUD as my contraceptive, I ve had it I since March. 3 days ago I noticed I had an itching/burning feeling on my clitoral/ vaginal area. I am in a relationship, and we ve been together in a monogamous for six years. I am unsure of what causes the itching/burning feeling and it also happens when I urinate. I also feel like when I do have to urinate I can t hold it. Please let me know what this could possibly be.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to a urinary tract infection.

I suggest using anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the symptoms.

I also suggest using antibiotics such as Ciprofloxacin.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi, General &Family Physician
