What Causes Itching And Irritation In Eye?

One eye is irritated, itchy, and is constantly tearing up. I have a slight cold, nothing serious, but two nights ago took a cold medication that caused an allergic reaction - hives on the hands and a few on the back and legs. I took Benadryl, which has mostly cleared the hives. However, today the eye is more irritated. I don t think it is conjunctivitis, as the cornea is not overly red. It would seem that if it is an allergic reaction, both eyes would be affected. Any thoughts?
