What Causes Itching And Pus On Scalp?

My scalp has been itching for days. Tonight I had my daughter check, and I have pus that is stuck on the hair and scalp. There is minimal blood. Only 2 spots on the head. No lice. No ringworm. No dandruff. Never suffered from psoriasis. Is this fungal or bacterial?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The presence of the pus indicates the presence of a bacterial infection. I recommend to maintain a good hygiene. I also suggest to use an antibiotic cream for local application such as Neosporin cream. You should also use antihistamines such as Benadryl to relieve the itching. If the symptoms continue, I recommend to see a dermatologist for further evaluation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
