Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a very strong itch on my scrotum/testies area, which started a few days ago. The itch is so strong I can barely sleep, and it comes in waves. It itches, after i scratch it gets worse to the point where it hurts, then it goes away for several hours. I have read articles on this and I don t know what it is, considering STDs are the least likely, I am sexually inactive, and cancer sounds a bit sketchy since I m only in my teens. I now notice that the area is also slightly swollen. Help please.
Thanks for asking Healthcaremagic. There are a few different possible causes of these symptoms. One common cause of an itchy scrotum is a fungal infection of the skin. This type of infection is sometimes called jock itch or tinea cruris. Often there is a red rash associated with the infection that gets worse when you itch it. Treatment for this is a simple anti-fungal cream which contains neomycin, miconazole nitrate , clobetasol. Apply it over the itching area after cleaning it twice a day for 5 days. Hope it helps. If you have any other queries/question please feel free to ask. Thanks and wish you a healthy life.
