What Causes Itching In The Neck While On Allopurinol And Potassium Citrate?

I am taking allopurinol and potassium citrate for kidney stones. Have been taking these meds since Oct. 2016. For about a month now I have had terrible itching on the front of my neck. Skin appears dry and flakey. This is a serious side effect of these medications?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The itching on the front of your neck is not a side effect of these medications. Most probably is a newly set fungal infection of the skin or allergy to any new cosmetic product or some other medication you've started recently.

I advise applying calamine lotion locally. If no improvement within a couple of days should consult with a dermatologist as might need prescription meds.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
