What Causes Itching Inside Labia And Clitoris?

I do hope so .... I am 58 and have an incredibly itchy vulva inside labia and clitoris. It moves - sometimes the left side, sometimes the right, sometimes the clit... It started a few months ago but was preceded by difficulty having sex so using ovestin cream back in Dec 2014 in Australia. The cream was brilliant - Then I returned to NZ (without my partner) and in February developed what appeared to be a yeast rash in my cleavage (I am not big busted, just very ordinary). This was the during a very hot summer in NZ so thought that was the problem. Used an anti fungal cream with hydrocortisone which worked well - until after 3 weeks I changed to one without the hydrocortisone when the rash started to reappear. It is mild but flares up occasionally. My partner was coming to NZ for a month in April so I started using Ovestin again. When he was over we both developed an itch - his under the foreskin with little red bumps, mine between my labia and under the hood of the clitoris. At times this is accompanied by the same small red bumps - but no odour or discharge. Thinking it was probably thrush, he used (on pharmacists advice) anti fungal with hydrocortisone which cleared his completely. I used an anti fungal tablet (orally) as I have found in the past that creams cause a thrush like reaction with me and hydrocortizones cause my vulval skin to thin, crack and bleed. My symptoms persisted so I took another pill, which, if anything, seemed to aggravate the problem. He has returned to Aus so I stopped using ovestin again, thinking I may be reacting to it. I have had 3 visits to 2 different doctors who have told me, the tests show there s nothing wrong , and you have seborrheic dermatitis and both prescribed hydrocortisone cream. I now have 4 tubes of this hideous stuff. It does no good and aggravates the problem. I am now wondering if it is lichen sclerosis (Oh I hope not!), food related or perhaps still candida, though the doctor told me I don t have candida overgrowth. I have mostly cut sugar from my diet, don t drink, am coeliac and have/had graves disease (on thyroxine now after radioactive iodine treatment). I started taking probiotics a few days ago, cut out cheese and cream as well as sugar and reduced GF bread. For 48 hours I was almost completely itch free. Then work provided dinner - i had pumpkin soup and ...couldn t resist....chocolate brownie and unsweetened cream (all Gluten Free, though I had a slight reaction so something wasn t right). 3 am I woke with the most incredible itch! That was 36 hours ago and its settled down to just being there, mostly not bothering me but not going away. I don t know where to turn next. Please, can you help?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Well, I appreciate that you gave a good and long description of what things are happening with you. Itching inside labia and clitoris is mainly due to dryness caused due to lack of estrogen in the menopausal women.
Hence you need to go in for estrogen hormone patches, which would help you to overcome this problem on a long term. You can use moisturizing cream whenever you experience such dryness and take Tablet. Levocetrizine 10mg to control itch.
Apart from that, you need to take care to maintain proper hygiene as well as healthy diet, which would help to keep things well.
Kindly consult Gynecologist for the advise regarding use of hormone replacement patches, which would suit your condition.
All the best and wish you good health.
