Hi, I am a diabetic. I fell ill with flu 5 days ago. during this period I stopped my diabetic medicines and had the 3 day course for flu. Later while the fever came down, the headache remained. Yesterday I resumed my diabetic medicines. today morning I also took an aspirin for the headache. However now I have developed sever itching on my soles and palms. Please advise what should I do. Hello,

Thank you for posting your query in HCM
Your intense itching of the palms and soles is due to an allergic reaction. It could be the aspirin you had in the morning or it can be to anything you ate or applied on yourself or any clothing.
You can take an anti histamine tablet now , a non sedating one if you are working or have to be alert. If not a sedating one will be okay.
I understand that you discontinued your anti diabetic medicines when you had a viral infection. This is not advisable. It is possible that you were not eating and hence thought stopping the medicine completely would be okay. There is a tendency for blood sugar to go up with infection and it can make one very sick especially if one has Type 1 disease or Type 2 requiring insulin. The right thing to do is to do blood sugars frequently and to adjust the dose of medicines according to the blood sugar.
If you itching is not controlled by an antihistamine, you should see a doctor.
Wish you quick recovery.
