Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Itching On The Arms, Neck And Back After Taking Eliquis?
I HAD A DVT 3 YEARS AGO AND WAS ON WARFARIN AND HAD NO ISSUES. 1 MONTH AGO I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A SUPERFICIAL THROMBOPHLEBITIS IN MY RIGHT CALF AND HAVE BEEN TAKING ELIQUIS 2.5MG TWICE DAILY FOR THE PAST 2 WEEKS. TWO DAYS AGO I STARTED ITCHING ON MY ARMS, NECK AND BACK. COULD THIS BE FROM THE ELIQUIS AND SHOULD I STAY ON THE ELIQUIS OR ASK MY DR TO CHANGE TO WARFARIN OR SOMETHING ELSE OR IS THERE A WAY TO STOP THE ITCHING WITHOUT CHANGING THE MEDICATION? THANK YOU.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Allergy to Elliquis is rare. That too after 2 weeks of taking the medicine &rash on restricted parts of the body.
Still, the possibility cannot be ignored. It can be either fungal infection or allergy (to the drug or something else cosmetics, the material of clothing).
You better consult your treating doctor, he would examine the rash & decide. Do not discontinue medication without his consent.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
