Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Itching On The Body When Diagnosed With Shingles?
I was diagnosed with shingles but am questioning that diagnosis. I am not really in much pain. Just uncomfortable and itching- alot! Rash with blisters on back and both shoulders. Also behind ears and on hairline. Also - headaches. No other symptoms.
Your symptoms may also be related to an allergic reaction or contact dermatitis. You can take drugs to help with the itchiness like benadryl every 6 hours, but be cautious as this may cause drowsiness and affect your ability to drive.
You may also use local moisturizing cream to keep the area from getting dry and more itchy. It may be best to avoid steroid creams on the area for at least the first 10 days because if it is shingles causing the blisters it might get worse as steroids reduce the immune system reaction and may cause the infection to progress.
If there is any worsening or if no improvement in 10 days, you will need to see your doctor.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
