What Causes Itching On The Face After Taking Ferrous Sulfate?

I took sulpha drugs as a young person and broke out in hives, so doctor told allergic to them and not to take. Now 67 and recently given ferrous sulphate to replace red blood cells.. have taken 3 days and my face around the jaw line and neck is starting to be very itchy, slightly coloured to red. Could this be a allergic reaction to the sulphate in the iron pills?

Hi,

As per your history is concerned your face itching has no relation with this medication as in day to day life we prescribe this medication. For your clarification please note these side effects in detail [GI irritation, Abdominal pain and cramps, Nausea, Vomiting, Constipation, Diarrhea, Dark stool and Discoloration of urine, Heartburn].

So your problem is due to some other pathological causes so to know the exact cause of itching do following investigations as below---:

1) Full blood count with differential to rule out infection bacterial and viral

2) Do Urine exam (RE/ME)

3) Do stool exam to ruled out any worm infection

4) Do Fasting blood sugar and TSH to ruled out endocrinological disorders

5) Take [ALERTRIZ tablet 5 mg ] once a day for 5 days in the evening,Follow me after 5 days with all reports
