What Causes Itching On The Hands While On Generic Augmentin?
I was prescribed a generic for Augmentin. Amoxicillin 875mg-Potassium Clavulanate 125mg tablet today I took 1 pill - I’ve been taking 1/2 a pill started on Monday- Because they are so big - today I started itching and got some welts on my hands face and buttocks- This medicine was for a throat that was hurting and one ear was infected got drops for it- Saturday my other ear was hurting went back to dr and gave me more drops for that ear- I am wondering since my throat doesn’t hurt I wanted to stop taking augmentin and just do drops. Is that ok?
Itching of hands and itchy welts on the hand, face, and buttocks appears to be due to an allergic reaction to Augmentin. It is a penicillin group of antibiotic. So my suggestion is to stop taking Augmentin. Consult an emergency room so that you can be advised alternate antibiotics. For now, -You can take anti-allergics like Levocetirizine or Allegra so that the itching subsides. -Also, do cool compresses over the welts. -Apply Caladryl lotion for relief. -Drink plenty of water so as to wean off the effect of the antibiotic faster.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
