What Causes Itching On The Skin After Taking Azacitidine?

Good evening. I have AML since May 2016 and am now being treated with azacitidin. I have just finished my fifth course and in the past 24 hours I have developed an itchy skin. Can you advise if this is serious and what I can do to relieve it. Regards Peter Thomas one yyyy@ yyyy.com

Hi,

I can understand your concern. Itching in the skin is mostly due to some form of skin allergy.

So take a combination of antihistamine (Levocetirizine or Fexofenadine) and anti-allergic (Montelukast). Apply Mometasone cream on the skin.

Also, get done liver function test because of your AML. AML can cause altered liver functions and this can further cause itching in the skin. Don't worry, this is not a major or worrisome symptom.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
