Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For the past two weeks I have had itching on my thighs and stomach, it was originally not visible unless scratched and then it becomes red and warm to the touch. It has spread to the creases of my body and can be very itchy. It started out when I was stressed out at work so I thought it was stress hives but they haven t subsided yet.
Your symptoms are indicative of itching due to fungal infection or jock itch. It commonly occurs when the hygiene is not adequately maintained. Warm and sweaty areas and creases of the body when not cleaned and washed give a very good breeding ground for the growth of fungus. You are advised to take bath regularly and use a medicated soap. Wear soft cotton clothes. When you get sweaty change immediately.
Wash your clothes daily. Always wear fresh clothes. Do not use scented beauty products. You can apply clotrimazole cream on the area affected will help to control the spread of fungal infection. Taking antihistamine at bed time will help to reduce itching and symptoms of allergy. You can apply hydrocortisone cream on the itchy areas, it will effectively reduce itching. In case of resistant fungal infection, you can take a course of antifungal (fluconazole) medication orally. Stay away from addictions if any.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
